AP5 Cycle Training, Education, Enterprise and Community Support
Rationale
It is important that individuals are equipped with the skills, and resources to participate in our society as cyclists. It is also importnat that communities support cyclists to do so.
Objectives
Objective AP5.1
Increase the numbers of children benefitting from Bikeability and similar courses in the district; including programmes and training activity for teenage children.
Objective AP5.2
Increase the number of qualified cycle trainers and coaches in the district, paid and voluntary; increase training provision in line with this. Encourgae cycle trainers to come from all walks of life.
Objective AP5.3
Develop an accredited CyTech Mechanics Course at a Local College; Incorporate cycle mechanics training in FE from level 1 upwards. Embed cycling into all curriculum areas.
Objective AP5.4
Develop innovation in cycle and equipment design and production, especially in bikes for people with disabilities.
Objective AP5.5
Develop incentives and support for target groups; Support young people (16+), women and BME communities specifically to change perceptions of cycling – open to all sdults including new and returning cyclists. Provision for adult on road training.
Objective AP5.6
Support club development and diversification to engage all types of cyclists.
Objective AP5.7
Develop cycle awareness eduction programme to integrate into all vehicle driver training.
Objective AP5.8
Actively promote good, and criticise poor cyclist behaviour – change perception vehicle drivers have of cyclists on the roads.

Club development linked to coaching and training opportunities for young people is vital alongside all the more environmental aspects of developing a cycling culture in Bradford. it is through clubs that many young people learn the mechanical aspects of cycle care – as well as personal health and fitness principles.
