The Big Breeze Bike Ride – 23rd and 24th June 2012

The the Big Breeze Bike Ride is the UK’s first ever event to get thousands of women riding a bike at the same time. British Cycling’s Breeze network have created a new Facebook app which allows women anywhere in the country to create, promote, share and join rides, all on 23-24 June. This summer, across all the West Yorkshire districts, an exciting new cycling offer is being launched and this week will be one of your first chances to get involved. Go:cycling West Yorkshire is to offer a range of opportunities to get involved in events, receive training catered to your level of ability, get help with maintenance and receive advice about the best bike for you.

The programme will be launched this Saturday the 2nd of June and to celebrate there will be a led family bike ride starting from Saltaire Train Station at 11am. The ride will go through to Keighley Rail Station and back to Saltaire, returning by 1am. Feel free to ride as little or as much as you want, hop off using the local trains.

The British Human Power Club

The British Human Power Club encourages all forms of human powered propulsion but generally supports the racing of recumbent bicycles and tricycles.

Sunday May 20th they will be racing at Quibell Park Velodrome, Scunthorpe a 30o banked 485m tarmac track. Entry is £10 on the day, non-members welcome. Track open and sign on from around 10.00am. Free entry for spectators.

Anyone is welcome, not just women! It’s a pretty hilly route but we’ll be aiming for an average speed of 10-12 mph

Manchester Road Bridge Begins!…

Bradford Living Street Connect2 Project – Manchester Road Bridge Installation – ARRIVAL OF NEW WALKING & CYCLING BRIDGE!!!

With regards to the above project I am pleased to announce that construction of this new route is ahead of programme and installation of the main parts of the bridge will commence this Friday 11/05/12 evening. The immediate section of Manchester Road will be closed this weekend and next.

Sustran’s was awarded £50 million by the Big Lottery Fund, following a TV vote, to provide new routes for every day walking and cycling journeys across the UK.

The Manchester Road bridge scheme is part of that project, and the new bridge will connect communities in the area and provide links to the city centre and the university.

The site will of course NOT be open be open to the public but you will still be able to get close enough to witness quite a spectical!

There will also be an official launch event on July 15th. More details to follow.

Bradfords first skyride local for 2012

This sunday, 6th May, sees Bradfords first skyride local ride of 2012 set off from East Riddlesden Hall at 2pm. This ride is perfect for families using the Airedale Greeway, canal tow path from East Riddlesden to Bingley 5 Rise locks and back. Joining the rides is free and there are plenty of places left.

Some great rewards for children this year too. Goody bags after the first ride, a frog light after the second and a Skyride blue hoody once they have completed three!

Sky Ride Local is back in Bradford – Everyone’s Invited

Sky Ride Local – the popular programme of free, friendly community bike rides – is back for 2012 and bigger than ever.

There are free group bike rides across Bradford, with lovely routes in parks and on tracks and trails. With British Cycling trained Ride Leaders on hand to offer encouragement and support, it’s a great way for families and friends to get together and explore Bradford.

Children and young people can get some great gifts for joining 1, 2 or 3 rides.

Breakfast 3!

Another success of a cycle breakfast was held this morning of Wednesday the 28th March. The weather was particualrly great and people turned out in record numbers - a full 50 people! Thanks to all those who turned up and who have been cycling in over recent weeks. Bike Breakfast 2

Around 30 people turned up for a free cyclists breakfast this morning. 21 of them arrived with the Aire Valley Bike Bus, which is running every day throughout the last two weeks of March.

Held in the new pavilion at the City Park, riders scoffed bacon butties, pastries, and fruit, all washed down with tea, coffee and fruit juice. This is the second of 3 bike breakfast opportunities held in the month of March. In a ‘you don’t see one for ages, then three come at once’ kind of way, these events herald the start of longer, lighter evenings, ideal for the commuter cyclist.

Bike Breakfast for Climate Week

Full bike racks at the Culture Fusion bike breakfast

This morning saw around a dozen cyclist take advantage of a free ‘bike breakfast’ to mark Climate Week 2012.

Hosted by the Global Exchange volunteers from Bradford Environmental Education Service at the new Culture Fusion building, riders had the chance to tour the building, use the secure cycle parking and munch croissants and pastries.

More bike breakfasts are planned in March at the new Pavilion in City Park, from around 8am:
